Karin Gäbel joins Thomas Concrete Group's Executive Management

The concrete company Thomas Concrete Group is strengthening its strategic sustainability efforts by appointing Sustainability Manager Karin Gäbel to the company's executive management, starting September 1.

For Thomas Concrete Group, sustainability has always been important. The company is a pioneer in low-carbon concrete in Sweden and a key player in driving the industry toward a more sustainable direction.

"We care about both people and the environment. With our Sustainability Manager Karin Gäbel now joining the executive management, we will have an even greater opportunity to continue our strategic sustainability work at a high pace," says Hans Karlander, CEO and Group President.

Karin has been the Group's Sustainability Manager since 2020. Her work has contributed to placing sustainability issues high on the agenda in the Group’s companies across both Europe and the USA. She has pushed for more industry players to collaborate early in the process to minimize climate impacts and has also worked to ensure that the industry transitions to more sustainable materials and methods. Karin has been deeply involved in spreading knowledge about low-carbon concrete, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional concrete. Today, 30% of all concrete sold by the Group in Sweden is low-carbon.

With my experience and knowledge from both the raw materials industry and the construction industry, I look forward to further contributing to accelerating the industry's transition in all the countries we operate in," says Karin Gäbel.

As Karin becomes part of the executive management team, she will also take on the role of Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and will report to CEO and Group President Hans Karlander.
